A Fascinating Day at the Races :: Sydney

Sydney is again awash with Race Fever and on any given morning our suburban streets are filled with dressed up curbside punters waiting for their taxis to the track.

I found this Fascinating Fascinator at 11am this Saturday morning....

Dsc00147

Even better are the scenes outside the pubs in the afternoons .... where you will find the penguins without their ties and the girls barefoot with their heels in their hands and their fascinators sliding sideways off their heads.

A Country Road :: Sydney

It's been around since the days when beige was high fashion and private school girls wore crisp linen pants, a chambray shirt, a string of pearls and a pair of sensible flat shoes (or RM Williams) at the rugby.

And for me it was only ever good for a big fluffy bath robe or a new white duna cover and sheet set.

But in 2007 it seems that its back and the street on everybody's lips for basic fashion essentials is Country Road.

I just love this jacket.....

The Bird & The Bee :: Bellevue Hill :: Sydney

A cute little persons shop has opened in my hood called The Bird & The Bee. Its on Bellevue Road and worth checking out if you have a small human in toe.

From Top to Toe :: Bondi Beach :: Sydney

I think this girl has a great look going on.

From the pointy trainers to the leopard print leggings, the leather jacket and the big hair. It's just fabulous.

Again, sorry about the image quality.

Sweet Pea :: BB's Bar :: Bondi Beach :: Sydney

I visited the latest version of BB's Bar the other night at its new location on Campbell Parade and spotted this cute white pea-coat with red love hearts on it. Great for the autumnonic weather we're having in Sydney at the moment.

I also loved the little black and white ballet flats this girl was wearing, with the little black ribbons on the top.

Sorry about the picture quality though. Like me, the camera phone isn't big on being out too late at night.

Good Tuu-Tuu. And you? :: Bellevue Hill :: Sydney

Apparently this little one handpicked her outfit for the day.

I would have to if it was in my wardrobe.

It's all in the Shoes :: Bellevue Hill :: Sydney

You can tell a lot about a person from their shoes. To me they are the true pinnacle in any outfit. It may seem strange but it all finishes at the bottom for me, and if the shoes aren't good, I'm not interested.

So when I spotted this fantastic pair this morning I couldn't help but stop and ask about them. It was the big red bauble on the top that first attracted me to them, but on closer inspection they have the most fascinating design. I'm not sure whether it was the fluro rubber, the ankle strap or the thong style toes but what ever it was I love them! And of course, the girl was lovely too!

Poor White Trash :: Sydney

I cant help noticing how a portion of the Sydney Fash Pack have taken to looking like Poor White Trash. I mean those cool cats are taking the worst of eighties fashion and making themselves look seriously povo.

The resurgence seems to have re-embraced the following:

Rayban Wayfarers,

fluro everything,

big hair (on men),

Fedora hats,

torn jeans and shirts,

more Fedora hats,

short shorts,

the Bondi Handbag

and tartan (aka the flano..)

Venturing through some Sydney party photos on the The Cobra Snake's site I noticed some serious Trailer-Park-Looks goin' on.

I must say, there were definately some hints of Fabulous there, but there was also some serious hints of Hideous!

These Junior Pirates at Bondi Skate Park were found on The Cool Hunter site. They're just doing their best to achieve the wealthier version of the look.

Who's your Daddy? :: Fox Studio's :: Moore Park :: Sydney

Parenting in Sydney leaves you with a multitude of activity choices on the weekends. The beach. The park. The City. The pub. (Did I say that?)

But on an overcast day when everyone is sufferring from Cabin Fever, why not head down to a place like the local playground.

Why here you can surround yourself with slightly larger primary coloured plastic objects than you have in your loungeroom and multiply the number of small people at your feet by 100.

Just like this Daddy.

Compo Holiday :: Bellevue Hill :: Sydney

Fancy some time off work?

Why not try having your hand crushed by a window.

Not long after being stitched up at the hospital, and not long into the first few Panadeine Forte's, this poor chap and his wife were grabbing a quick takeaway coffee in Bellevue Hill before heading off to pick up their brand new car.

No prizes for guessing who's driving that puppy home.

Super Pooper Bag Carrier :: Sydney ::

Even the dogs are keeping up with the latest fashion trends.... this pooch has got his own leopard print pooper bag carrier attached to his lead.

Gould Street :: Bondi Beach :: Sydney

A chance encounter yesterday with the hilarious Josh from Zoit.... chattin' up a storm outside his Gould street salon.

Orange is definately his colour.

Curb Crawling :: Liverpool Street :: East Sydney

This little pocket of land nested between Oxford Street, William Street and Darlinghurst Road is famous for its Curb Crawlers and even a smattering of signs at every street corner doesn't deter the working girls doing laps up and down this little strip.

And right in the middle of Liverpool Street is the lovely East Village hotel where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage while taking in the lappers and escaping the end of Summer humidity. These girls were doing just that yesterday.

The French Quarter :: Jacques Avenue :: Bondi Beach :: Sydney

Self titled by those that live and work in this little street behind Sydney's most famous beach, the French Quarter folk really are fabulously eccentric.

Sitting just off Hall Street and across the way from Gould Street where the fash pack hang, this little part of Sydney has a personality all of its own.

In this cute ensemble, this lady who owns the nail salon at the back of the pharmacy on Hall, is taking a quick peep in The Market and then is off to do her banking.

Autumnonic :: Bondi Junction :: Sydney

Is there such a word? A-U-T-U-M-N-O-N-I-C

A word to describe the feeling you get when the weather suddenly changes and you wake up feeling cold and want to don a cardy and a pair of closed toe shoes - until of course the midday sun is beating down on you...

It's a word that springs to mind when you see the leaves change colour on the beautiful Plane trees lining Oxford Street past the Centennial Hotel.

With much debate around the dinner table last night over a few bottles of vino and absolutely no access to Google, it was decided that even if it isn't a word - it should be.

AUTUMNONIC.

However, since access has been restored, Google has said:

Your search - autumnonic - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:
Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
Try different keywords.
Try more general keywords.

Oh well. The trees are still beautiful at this time of year.

Kaftan-arama :: Bondi Beach :: Sydney

This girl was grabbing a few supplies at the IGA store in Hall St, Bondi Beach today.. I love the ankle length blue kaftan, the thongs (and manicured red toes), the beehive and the Jackie O sunnies!

Shauno's Scooteria :: Bellevue Hill :: Sydney

Shauno (Pimp Daddy Cheung) has taken to turning the driveway of his Bellevue Hill apartment block into a scooter mechanics shop.

I guess this is what happens when your wheels are vintage. They may cost a fortune and take lots of fixing but at least they look good and you dont have the problem of traffic jams or finding a space to park!

Shauno1_2Shauno2_1

As well as the vespas, he has inherited a dodgy old pizza delivery scooter which apparenly is his next project.

Baby Style :: Centennial Park :: Sydney

I love these cute little summer dresses and hats. These gorgeous small people were having a great time on the bouncing seat at the Centenial Park playground last week... so cute.

Bugaboo Babes :: Centennial Park :: Sydney

It seems us Thirty-Somethings have been experiencing somewhat of a baby explosion and here in Sydney the streets are teaming with gorgeous women and men pushing prams filled with one, two or three little people.

And of course the pram de jour, as touted by some very posh international celebrities, seems to be the megga expensive, wizzbang, ergonomic, fold me this way, fold me that way, I'll even change the baby for you - Bugaboo.

For those of you who haven't yet been aquainted with the Bugaboo its the weird looking pram with the funny little wheels at the front and the chair which makes the baby look like its going to fall out at any moment.

Now I personally do like the Bugaboo but I think it was the colours that put me off buying one when we were in the pram buying market. The shape and practicality might have been designed by a couple of men in the Netherlands, but the colours were definately conceived by a woman. Probably even a pregnant woman, high on hormones, thinking about other pregnant women spending their last month of pregnancy shopping for a pram. I mean, how could you expect your man to push around a hot pink pram on a Saturday morning? Mine certainly wouldn't.

So if you do decide to buy a Bugaboo, make sure you go crazy with all of the extra's you can get, such as the parasol umbrella or travel bag. And if you can look as fabulous as this Mum pushing hers through Centenial Park yesterday, you are onto a great thing!

Camo-fied :: Bellevue Hill :: Sydney

When a man reaches a certain age, his love for getting around on a piece of wood with four wheels, or some aluminum with two wheels and a set of handlebars, shifts to a different place.

It shifts to something with more beauty, with more warmth, and more devotion than everything else in his world (well maybe not everything)....

And its not a dog, not his girlfriend, not even his child...

its his car.

bling bling bling bling bling......

we've all seen Pimp My Ride (perhaps once too many times) but camo?

This little beauty was snapped burning up Victoria Road Bellevue Hill today.
